Mezcal After Dark
MEZCAL AFTER DARK
A Nightmare on Third Street Tasting
Thursday, October 15 | 7–9 PM $30 advance | $35 day of
Limited to 24 guests
Step into Nightmare on Third Street for an evening exploring mezcal. Your ticket includes a self-paced flight of three distinct mezcales, selected to show just how much variety can exist within the category. Along with your flight, you’ll receive a tasting guide with a little background on each mezcal, the agave used to make it, how it’s produced, and a few things to look for in the glass.
THE FLIGHT
Del Maguey Vida Made from Espadín agave in San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca, Vida is a great place to begin. Its profile combines roasted agave with fruit, ginger, cinnamon and citrus, giving us a classic Espadín expression and a reference point for the rest of the flight.
Ojo de Tigre Mezcal Joven Ojo de Tigre brings together Espadín from Oaxaca and Tobalá from Puebla. It leans bright and approachable, with citrus, green apple and pear alongside cooked agave, caramel, smoked cacao and fresh cucumber. It offers a chance to taste how an ensamble of two agaves can differ from a straight Espadín mezcal.
Mezcal Vago Elote Vago Elote takes Espadín in a completely different direction. During its second distillation, toasted heirloom corn is added to the still, imparting a subtle corn character to the finished mezcal. Vago describes Elote as a celebration mezcal, reflecting the longstanding importance of both agave and corn in rural Mexico.
THE COCKTAILS
Once you’ve tasted all three, choose the mezcal that stood out to you and try it in a cocktail. Each spirit will have its own featured cocktail, and one cocktail of your choice is included with your ticket.
Division Bell Featuring Del Maguey Vida with Aperol, maraschino liqueur and lime. Bright, bittersweet and citrus-forward, with mezcal adding smoke and depth.
Mezcal Margarita Featuring Ojo de Tigre Mezcal Joven with lime and orange liqueur. Familiar enough for Margarita drinkers, but with the added character of mezcal at the center.
Oaxaca Old Fashioned Featuring Mezcal Vago Elote alongside tequila, agave and bitters. Rich, spirit-forward and a great way to experience Elote’s savory character in a classic-style cocktail.
This isn’t a formal class. Arrive anytime between 7 and 9 PM, pick up your flight and tasting guide, and work through everything at your own pace. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 the day of the event. Space is limited to 24 guests, and day-of tickets will only be available if space remains.
Whether mezcal is already one of your favorites or something you’ve barely explored, Mezcal After Dark is an opportunity to slow down, taste three expressions side by side, and learn a little more about what makes each one distinct. Nightmare on Third Street will be in full swing throughout the evening.
